The last few years the App and Play stores have been inundated with churches staking a claim securing their app name in the mobile world. This week is the third segment of the three-part series highlighting key benefits of using an app and cloud based platform for your church’s digital content. The first segment covered the intricacies of online media storage and how to avoid paying for an overlap in services between different providers. Last week in our second segment we explored push and in-app messaging and why it is the most effective communication method for the church. In our third and final segment of this three-part series we will explore why analytics are perhaps the most important feature of an app and what they can do for your church. Not all app providers offer analytics, and when an app provider does have that oh-so-important app data, is it telling you what you need to know? Let’s get started. First of all, why is it important to have this so-called data? Reflect back to CDs and DVDs. You record the sermon, duplicate discs, then distribute. You know how many discs you made, and that is where it ends. An app and platform offering analytics can provide much more insight to how well your sermon is received. Did it motivate? Was it shared? How did it impact? A good analytical platform will provide detailed data sets of multiple streams such as content consumption, user reports and app activity. Content consumption is an important piece of the puzzle. This information will help pastors align their sermons with what speaks to the congregation. Unlike a CD or DVD, with an app and good analytics you have more detail about content than you could ever imagine. Having content consumption details is very helpful to a pastor and church. User reports can tell you where your on-ramping is coming from (website, social media, direct from app stores) so you can maximize your marketing efforts. What (operating systems) your app user devices are on, when (time) and where (geo) is your app being used. There are so many ways to interpret this data it will boggle the mind; the end game being to use the information as it is relevant to your church. Knowing app activity will aid in fine tuning your app. What menus in your app are being accessed the most and least and when? Is your mobile donation campaign working? Track the results of your push and in-app messaging (see the second segment of this three-part series on push and in-app messaging). This concludes our three-part series highlighting key benefits of using an app and cloud based platform for your church’s digital content.
