Is your content authentic? Does it represent your brand properly? Creating content on a regular schedule can be a pressure cooker for the teams involved. Sometimes we lose sight of the overall picture, straying from our authenticity in effort to get the job done.
Staying true to your brand is of utmost importance, especially in the off months when your loyal followers keep you afloat until the busy season starts. Employees on vacation leave skeleton crews in their wake to wear several hats and deliver top-notch content with a thinned out staff. Cutting corners in creative to shove content out the door is never a good idea. This is when that skeleton crew must dig deeper to uphold that hard-earned corporate persona. Now is the time to stop and reflect on your brand, mission and goals - refresh your memory! At first glance it seems like a waste of time when there is a mountain of work glaring at you. When you tap into authenticity two things happen; you speak from the heart and it doesn’t feel like work. Remember that feeling when you knew you ‘nailed it’ – that’s what we’re going for here. Whatever you have to do to get there; go for a 10 minute walk, watch an inspiring video on YouTube, listen to your favorite song, anything that puts you in a calm and relaxed mental space. Now think about the most successful and well-received content you’ve been a part of creating, chances are it is as authentic and true-to-your-brand as you can get. The icing on the cake? It felt natural and the team was in-sync, it didn’t feel like work. Authenticity should be a natural sense of self, life often gets in the way muddying the path. Remember that after hours networking group you attended? Did you stretch the truth about yourself and company? It’s easy to do and everyone does it from time to time. Don’t fool yourself! People know when someone or something is authentic or not. Passion, delivery, body language, enthusiasm all give away your poker face - just be authentic! It’s natural, easier, and it’ll carry you farther than any other combination you can dream up. The next time your struggling to find your authentic voice, stop and smell the roses for a minute, it’ll be well worth your time.
